Our Process and Inspiration

A vision of a finished product is always easy to imagine. We all know getting there is a different story. In any competitive industry, let alone watches and web3, to create something special, the experience needs to be there but also natural skill with some inherent taste for quality and appeal. Not to mention the hard work and means of execution, oh and timing. An equation for success that must align with the stars and perhaps sprinkle in a miracle or two for good measure.

The result is but a chance to make some lasting positive impression on such an incredible field.

To enter a room full of experts and people who have been around the block more than a couple of times is always a humbling experience. Our approach is to complement the industry with a salute and respectable product.

The same mentality is applied in our approach to blockchain and crypto as much as the watches themselves.

We found that digging into the horological community, the engineers, passionate hobbyists and the intriguing soul of the community, there is common energy. They are for the most part, all pretty chill, logical and humble folks that enjoy their craft and enjoy the journey. A very inviting community, but one that never stops reaching for perfection and the highest of quality results, one that can stand-up and prosper while traveling through decades of life on earth. And because of that, the community continues to share and are open to learning and diving in to join the mission together. That is simply the standard. Discords are lively, there are tons of clubs and societies and students and mentors alike. This leads to generations of prosperity, financially, ever-increasing performance in technology and growth for the general knowledge of individuals as well as the community as a whole.

So the resources are available for all to make a great product. Now, it was just a matter of finding the right tools and process to fit it all together. The engine within the watch, like the engines that drive the most prestigious blockchains are just as important to us as what we see on the surface, it is in fact part of the user experience for us. These are our roots and where our principles live.

We like to ask ourselves, if we could hold Cardano in our hand, what would that entail?  What would it be made out of? Stainless steel, titanium?  What is the input and output of it's movement, the cadence of the slots and ticks, frequency and bottlenecks. How about the reliability, purpose,  utility, ownership?

There is not just one answer to this and that is what will keep us coming back to the whiteboard and creating and doing for generations to come.

Our goal is to start off by making a simple and classic watch. One that is easy to read and universal style for a variety of occasions and environments. It is important that the watch can tell a story and be a conversation starter for those in and out of the community and to serve as a reminder to the core principals and virtues that bring us together and mean the most to us.

The watch will be able to tell local time but also count the epoch cycles and days in a unique way.

We will share a common goal and participate in making it a reality, together. The goal will be to make Cardano an official keeper of time and to allow each person to verify the time. But also to explore this new-age calendar, to express epoch cycles in mechanical time pieces.

There are a variety of color combinations and styles minted within these NFTS, each one is different. Together, the NFTS tell a story of how the design progressed and adjustments were made as the different versions of the watch were minted. They started off fairly basic and evolved from there. Many of them are less than perfect when it comes to the finer details so they are unique in this way. There are so much room to improve and so many more to concepts to mint.

Original

What inspired this watch is the idea that Cardano has 100% uptime, running 24 hours a day and each day of the epoch. To celebrate and look forward to the next epoch and to put us all on the universal pulse of the blockchain.

The 24 hour watch has a slower pace. A watch that only completes one rotation each day has a steady and unwavering cadence. Somewhat of a stronghold in that it simple and true, very much like Cardano.

The side of the sun represents the am hours, this will be the local time of the owner. The side of the moon provides for noon to midnight and is on the left side of the watch.

We kept all the hours of the day in one place to remind you that Cardano will be working the entire day.

It is also fairly easy to read the local time because of the enlarged numbers that break apart either part of the morning and evening. The 3, 6 and 9 hours of the day are easy to attract your eye and bring your attention to early, mid and late morning. This provides for a balanced and symmetrical piece. A unique way to map out a 24 hour watch and perhaps easier to read for some, as apposed to using military time where you see each hour of the day counting up to 24. Though, that is an option for future watches.

The local time can be read to the 15, 30 and 45 minutes of each hour with the 3 fine lines that separate each hour of the day.

We wanted to keep for a simple 2 hand watch. Having only one hand to tell local time really drives the focus and leaves for a clear view to reflect on the middle of the watch, the days of the epoch. The short hand in the center will complete every 5 days to let you know when the next epoch will be.

A unique piece that also provides the current epoch number next to the ep. A max up to 9999 epochs before needing to be reset, good for about 100 years or so.

Gold has held its weight in time and is of course one of the most sought after elements, so it is appropriate to lift up our most precious, and highest-standard blockchain this way.

The moon and the fonts of the numbers flow seamlessly notably 6 and 9 have similar curve to the crescent moon. A pearl or ivory dial would look great here but there are other great color combinations in the collection.

Hope you enjoy this first iteration and find the rest of the collection appealing.

Era Tribute

The Five Days of the epoch are represented in this piece. One day for each of the Five Eras of Cardano.

Reminisce through the past, present and future of Cardano with Byron, Shelley, Goguen, Basho and finally celebrate the Epoch day during Voltaire.

Policy ID:  1b6f32235af24b3eaedb9cfb3ef49753c853bd3d7982875a263e42eb

The original watch tells a good story but perhaps doesn't say "Cardano" as much as we would have liked. We felt we needed a clear homage to Cardano and everything it stands for. To encompass the history and future of Cardano, to educate and tell a story without crowding the watch with too much information or graphics. We kept things clean and simple and counting the epoch in the process.

A similar design to the original watch in that there are only two hands. The side of the moon details for grey circles for each hour and the am/sun side has the brighter gold for each hour of the morning. A counter for the current epoch is included and The Epoch Watch logo moon and sun form the E and P, though they are subtle in order to bring more attention to the 5 great eras that are celebrated throughout the 5 days of the epoch.

There are different shades of gold are there to give an effect of the gloss and shine of what a wearable watch might be. Other versions have a flat and consistent text.

Anyone conversing about the watch will have plenty to discuss and the owner will carry with them a meaningful tribute to all that is Cardano.

Check out the 12 hour version of the Tribute Era. Roman numeral and traditional numbers were created and the owner will have a regular hour and minutes experience. The Roman numerals here face the epoch eras in what is meant to be a sign of attention and respect to Cardano. This makes for an awesome traditional piece.

Chronograph

The Cardano Logo looks very comfortable telling epoch time. It was fun making these. The Logo provides for a beautiful watch and lots of options for calendars and info about the epoch cycle.

Policy ID: e031a0b1ede4a8be2e40703869c408fe005090a23fdca5185b334712

Here the inner circles provide the count for the epoch. 5 days, 24 hours and 60 minutes of the cycle, with an ADA symbol crowning each of the dials as well the top of the watch .

There are also ADA symbols that make up the stars of the PM side of the night and day dial. The sun and the moon rotate to tell local night or day and the lower half would likely be covered in a wearable watch so only the moon or sun would show.

The days of the week were chosen here because a 5 day cycle can sometimes be within the week or overlap in the next so it can be helpful to link the epoch cycle with the days of the week. We can even put a 31-day calendar there to track the date or even month of the year.

We went with the days of the week for a specific purpose. Weekdays were included to remind us of the days we should recognize as time to rest and self reflect. The Cardano time will go on and on and the epochs will count up higher and higher without pause. Lest we forget our need to touch grass and detach.

The top left dial will count the current epoch. The outer hands are traditional and tell local time to the minute.

Counting up in days from 1 through 5 to reflect a more positive outlook on the cycle, as apposed to counting down like a deadline which can sometimes carry a sense anticipation or excitement. This can be positive or negative but certainly a feeling in a particular way. This is perhaps an option of future iterations as anticipation, for let's say, bringing in the New Year is fun too and used a countdown. Epochs can be seen the same way. After so many epochs, a countdown might feel different than constantly counting higher, 1-5. Well leave these things up to the community.

INNER ERA

Policy ID:   af517a16f31927d86be532fe608a58290df4d769a22e784e66b2c238

The timeline may not be exact and of course we can all think of a couple more things to add. CIPs or the epoch number when a fork happened, even a layer 2 solution would be great.

We still think its an awesome way to take you through the 5 days of the epoch and reminisce on the incredible work put in.

Each Era is separated with blades grass to remind us to focus on things that are most important, touch grass. There are some other color combinations for this series.

Check out the rest of the collection in the Gallery.

Most of the NFTS stick to the traditional colors of Cardano for brand recognition.

The first couple generations of the actual RWA would not likely be so off the cusp of tradition. The RWA will have a more universal appeal and simplicity to start.

Creating a Wearable Product

Doing the movement justice, not just the community movement or the movement in the watch, but the Cardano movement. We strive to give the Cardano community what they deserve, what they are used to and what is expected. World class engineering, rare and precious metals. Digital utility and value. Spread education and open the gates for inclusivity.

Making a watch that lives up to these divine principals is an incredible feat. And even to make a watch that can compete on a world class level amongst the existing watches on the market is mountain in and of itself. There are so many incredible watches out there. You can imagine we have a lot to live up to.

Cardano, being a tried and true engine, Prestige is the goal when manifesting the ideas into a piece of living art. A true engineering marvel with zero downtown. Opensource and transparent. appealing to all. Utility

This requires only the top quality Movements. Keeping value over the years and standing the test of time through its resilience while acting as a piece of functioning art. Our belief is that we should have confidence and security in the quality of the movement as much as we do the blockchain.

A genuine and traceable manufacturing process, proof of quality assurance. That is a standard for the most academic, research-based blockchain so it must be for a product that represents the brand.

MANIFEST CARDANO INTO A RWA

We aim to take the virtues of Cardano and represent them in the watches, help to tell a story and tribute to the builders, holders, and those who have dedicated so much for this mission.

A powerhouse movement, Reliable and True engine within the watch, like the blockchain.

An opensource movement that anyone can build on top of.

Something transparent like the blockchain so you can see the inner workings of the movement

Longevity through great engineering, resilient and accurate

Switz or Japanese eningeering

Bare metal, like our servers

Stainless steel or other precious metals for value

Respected amongst the community both web3 and horology

Has utility and is unique

Some universal appeal without being plain jane

Automatic or Manual winding movement to remind us to touch grass and reset.

OG Samples

EPOCH COUNTDOWN

This is a simple prototype, the first minted.

The wheel is used to keep track of the days until the next epoch.

The EP will appear on the day of the Epoch, this can be replaced with the ADA symbol below. So each day will be either 4,3,2,1, or EP. Then an extra day described below.

We went with bare metal for a timeless and commodity driven look. For our SPOs, and soon to be time node keepers.

A reminder to meet with community members, collect your stake pool rewards or rush to the polls to vote before the deadline.

Of course there is no dial here, a more complete prototype and complex movement below.

HOW IT WORKS

The wheel can last for 6 epoch cycles. The 6th and last cycle of the wheel will have a different shade blue or grass indicators.

This will show that a reset is needed in the next couple of days.

A reset will be required after the 6th epoch is complete. The owner would need to reset the date function every 31st day and touch grass to get back on the 1st epoch cycle of the wheel.

In other words we are skipping the 31st day. The watch can be created really with any date watch.

Here are a couple of concepts and options for the epoch count wheels. The ADA symbol can be used for each epoch day (every 5th day).

Other options would be to make the ADA symbol for the reset day (day 31). Grass can be used to show that a reset is needed for each day of the 6th epoch or simply on the day of the reset.

CROWN

The crown is an important symbol and has lots of function. To reset the watch on the 31st day,  adjust the local time, or to adjust the day wheel below. Some movements, ie a manual watch movement would use the crown to wind up and reset the power source after a certain amount of use.

So we put the grass symbol there for you to touch when you reset in these ways.

Grass will also be used somewhere along the strap so when you put it on or take it off, you are forced to touch grass.

The date wheel can be set to flip at any time of day. Meaning the watch can be set to align to the epoch calendar. The entire 24 hours leading up to the turn of the epoch will reflect EP or the ADA symbol. Then when the epoch is over, it will change on the watch, to reflect 4 and repeat. Or the date wheel can be set to midnight so that only the DAY of the epoch shows the EP or ADA symbol. This may or may not work for every timezone. If you are in East Coast USA, then you have a evening Epoch. Setting the wheel for midnight means that the EP will show for the day of the epoch, even after the epoch is technically over, until midnight the night of the epoch.

 Day Era Inaugural

Here is what the actual watch will likely be, in that there will be a Day Wheel for Epoch ERAs and another Wheel to Count the Days of the Epoch.

This prototype is a 24 hour watch, but the Cardano logo, further down is also very appealing.

24 hours of the day are displayed on this dial. 1am through 12pm is on the right side, the side of the sun.

The 12 evening hours are on the left side, the side of the moon

Day Wheel

Each Day of the week will be dedicated to a Cardano ERA

Monday is Byron, followed by Shelley, Goguen, Basho.

Friday is Voltaire, shown here.

Touch Grass

Used for the 2 days of the weekend. This is meant to serve as a reminder to the community to detach, reset and self reflect. Enjoy life and appreciate some downtime.

For the purposes of these images, we left the EP there. IRL this would continue to count the days of the epoch. Of course the epoch can fall on any day of the week so the watch will sync naturally once set. Both wheels will turn each day accordingly to the weekday and counting for the epoch.

EPOCH COUNTDOWN

The Day Era Inaugural is also equipped with a window to count the 5 days of the epoch and to let you know when the next epoch will be.

It is located at the 6am spot in this prototype and reads as EP. So this would be the day of the epoch.

A subtle but meaningful function and its totally dedicated to and powered by Cardano.

Dials

Cardano Logo

The Cardano logo can inspire the way we read time and epoch calendars.

Circles can light up every 5 days, have a rotation feature or bloom like a flower every 5 days. Perhaps the circles are transparent like the blockchain, and shows its inner skeleton, escapement and tourbillon of the engine that makes the watch tick. We enjoy the look of a deep blue lapis stone surrounded with silver or gold. Check out more ideas in our CONCEPTS page.

We would like to invite our great engineers to pioneer a new universal time that is epoch time. Opening the door to never before seen builds in horology and use the Cardano logo in so many ways.

Our prototype here is not the official Cardano logo. Its fairly tough to fit al 24 smaller circles in there with the size of dial we used in our samples, but we feel it still captures enough resemblance and still fits with the windows and wheels for a clean and simplistic look. It is a traditional 12 hour face and uses the coincidental,12 Cardano circles.

The focus here are the days of the week, the epoch counter next to the 3 oclock would also be counting 4,3,2,1 EP while the days of the week go by for normal use. You will be able to count the epoch days and go through the ERA's each weekday at the same time.

Use of the Cardano Logo

There should be a high standard for official and even unofficial Cardano products. Cardano is ranked in the top brands of the world and we truly need to live up to it with this project. We know that Cardano will continue for generations and into the centuries. The products created and materials used should last just as long and provide that same standard of engineering and utility that went in to building Cardano up to what it is today. Well do our best to involve the community in this approach and honor all of those who contributed.

There is plenty of room and opportunity to incorporate more of the Cardano brand and ADA symbol within the watch. Even with the original watches that have the Cardano eras, and basic 5 day cycle count. This is low barrier to entry watch movement that is readily available across the globe. It can easily be made on each continent. Creating more concepts, like a true 5 day dial or chronograph, or inner era watch will inspire engineers to do the same and better.

We'll also provide some forward looking styles and special movements. The Cardano logo is an engineering marvel that provides for some exciting options in telling time and an epoch calendar.

We feel the Cardano Logo should be respected, similar to a nations flag. Our sample above is less than exact so we would like to make sure any logo watch is met up to standard and keeps its prestige. The sample should be considered more of a first generation prototype anything else.
There was no collaboration any other party involved in the creation of these nfts or protypes,  nor is there any connection or claim that Chronoracle represents the branding of Cardano, the Logo within the NFTs or prototypes.

It is our opinion that a decision should be made by the community on how to distribute royalties and earnings from the use of the Cardano logo for branding and merchandise in any scenario. This includes digital pictures and versions of the Logo and physical merchandise. Our current stance is that returns to the treasury should be generous when the logo is used and should meet the standards decided through Cardano's Governance Dao and constitution.

Perhaps a non profit is a way to think about it. Is an extreme 80%+ royalty due to Cardano's Treasury appropriate? Maybe some sort 30% tax to the Cardano Treasury to support the mission and attract community members to support Cardano as whole. Perhaps no amount is owed to the Treasury.  Anyway, we feel this should all be open for discussion by the Cardano Dao.

Still, we cannot allow the use of a logo to slow down the project. Watches can still be made to track the epoch calendar and verify time. See more Cardano logo ideas within our Concepts page.

Launch and Genesis Collection

Fair, equitable, transparent and for the people.
We are building a fair launch right in to the logic of the nft.

Our Launch is a unique one. We plan to bootstrap the Dao for years of success using as much of the gross proceeds from this launch as we can. Our aim is to maximize the DAO pool for future generations and mints. Founder's cut will remain consistent, in ADA terms, no matter how high the demand of the NFTS may be.

We want to give the end-users a RWA and NFT that wields its value on a personal level but also in the decision-making for what is to come through the DAO.

The launch consists of a few parts that act as milestones and obligations using smart contracts. This is for transparency and is extremely focused on putting the favor in the hands of the people.

Let's use a simple example to show the expected flow of funds. This will take us from the NFT purchase through the watch delivery, to the DAO.

Some of these figures will vary depending on the cost for manufacturing, demand, and start up costs. The below logic will end up being coded to the NFT itself for a transparent and fair launch. The official details will be released soon.

Here, the NFTS are purchased and the buyer will receive a random NFT out of the collection. Some more rare than others. There will also be a watch give-away, between 10-20+ NFTS will be a lucky winner. A free watch.

Example: NFT RETAILS FOR 1000 ADA

1. 10-30% (100-300 ADA) Cover Costs For

Watch Samples. The above prototype and official samples for manufacturing.

Site+NFTs and Smart-Contract Costs

Legal fees

Cost for Free Watches-We plan to give away 10-20+ watches in random NFT mints

Cardano Treasury-We will donate to the Cardano treasury at this time.

Chronoracle Treasury-We will add some to the Chronoracle treasury at this time.

Boost (for Locked Stakers)-We will set aside 2-5% of these moneys for extra incentive for locked stake (conditions below)

These costs can add up to close to six figures.

2. 70-90% (700-900 ADA)

Is Then Tied to the NFT and Can Be Staked.

See Staking Conditions Below.

NFT owners will select the watch of their choice and delivery information.

Watches will need to be delivered by a predetermined Delivery Date. The official deadline for a Delivery Date will be confirmed after the NFT sale period is over and enough time has past for NFT owners to select their watch for delivery.

Watches will be manufactured and delivered during the stake period.

Conditions are built into the NFT itself, so staking will help with a fair and transparent customer experience while they EARN.

3. The costs for manufacturing will likely be 30-50% of gross. (300-500 ADA)

We'll use a portion of the stake to then pay for manufacturing costs and have the watches delivered.

Watches are then delivered and verified using a RWA tracking method to confirm delivery and complete the rest of the contract.

4. This leaves 20-60% of the gross left (200-600 ADA)

After Delivery, the remaining balance is free to flow in to the DAO for the NFT holders to act upon, in line with our DAO structure and focus.

Another small donation to the Cardano Treasury is a consideration here.

Another payout to the founding entity. This portion, if any, will likely be vested or locked, stuck in the form of ADA for 6 months or even 1 year+. Most of the initial ADA set aside is Step 1 above will be used to pay for Samples, Give-Aways, Boosted Stake and Treasury Deposits. So founders are not in for much profit if any, after all is said and done, unless delivery is executed according to the contract.

The above figures are subject to change. This will depend on demand, cost of production, and start-up costs. Either way, it will all be predetermined and transparent as we expect.

We do not see the need for a token at this time. We would be happy to discuss other scenarios based on price and costs.

LIQUID-STAKING CONDITIONS

Staking is not a requirement for the delivery of a watch. Chronoracle intends to get these watches in the hands of those who purchased a NFT regardless of staking. The incentive for staking is a decision by the owner to put the responsibility on Chronoracle to deliver, a built-in obligation.

Once the NFT is purchased it can be staked in the Chronoracle vault, using Cardano's liquid staking technology.

It will be liquid so the owner can control the stake anytime, except if they decide to lock their stake. there are other benefits to liquid staking, described below.

Our goal is that 70-90+% of the gross proceeds from the NFT launch is staked until the Watches are delivered to the owners. This truly puts the end-user's first and is transparent throughout the process with built-in logic.

LIQUID STAKING

The stake can be removed anytime unless the owner chooses to lock for a boost.

The NFT is always under the custody of the wallet that purchased it, even during the staking period. Chronoracle would not custody the NFT in any case.

Stakers can still select their own Stake Pool and Drep for the ADA that is tied to the NFT.

If the NFT stake is removed prior to the delivery date then the ADA tied to it would flow to Chronoracle and the ADA-BACK GUARANTEE would be void.

Of course, the staker would still receive the stake rewards as per usual to Cardano's staking mechanism while they stake.

ADA-BACK GUARANTEE

If the owner stakes the NFT and does not unstake then they would be eligible to an ADA-back guarantee of the funds staked.

In other words, the stake would need to remain until the watch is delivered or by a set Delivery Date in order to receive the ADA-back guarantee.

If the owner does not stake or unstakes before the set Delivery Date, then they would not be eligible for an ADA back guarantee.

If the watch is not delivered by the set Delivery Date, then the nft owner would receive the ADA staked and keep the nft.

If the owner sells the NFT then the ADA-back guarantee is void. The new owner would need to contact Chronoracle to discuss staking conditions and watch delivery.

LOCK FOR A BOOST

If the owner selects to lock the NFT until the set Delivery Date or until the delivery of the watch, then they would receive an additional boost. Likely 2-5% of the amount that is staked. Of course they would still receive their normal stake pool rewards for their selected pool.

They would not be able to remove the stake until the watch is delivered or until the set delivery date if they choose to lock their stake.

Free Watch Winners

The random winners from the mint will have their Ada returned to them soon after staking the winning NFT. This will be built into the logic of the NFT itself.

There would not be a boost for staking a free watch NFT.

The NFT would remain staked until watch delivery or the set Delivery Date.

The NFT will stay under the custody if the winner in any case.

Voting rights should be honored in the DAO.

The free watch NTF cannot be resold or transferred to another wallet.

The NFT can be sold after the watch is delivered or after the set delivery deadline has past.

If a winning NFT is sold or transferred to another wallet prior to staking then the contract is void. No ADA is then required to be returned to the purchasing wallet and no watch would be owed to the purchaser.
